Sodas and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) remain the leading source of added sugars in the American diet for both children and adults. Higher consumption of SSBs is associated with increased obesity and chronic disease risk, such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. In fact, for each additional 12-ounce soda children consume each day, the odds of becoming obese increase by 60 percent.

Several local California cities and counties have taken the lead to pass policies aimed at reducing consumption of sugary beverages, often with the help of health care providers who can use their expertise and respected voices to improve the health of their communities.

In partnership with the California Department of Public Health and UC San Francisco’s Champion Provider Fellowship, we are pleased to offer this webinar that will discuss how communities are working to pass and implement prevention interventions aimed at reducing sugary beverage consumption and how clinicians can lend their voice during the phases of these local campaigns. This webinar is free to everyone.
