Physicians join California Legislators and We Care For California Coalition to Reignite Medi-Cal Legislation, Reduce Health Care Inequality

Physicians, health care workers, and patients joined legislators at the state Capitol to call attention to California's very low Medi-Cal reimbursement rates and its negative impact on access-to-care. SB 243 and AB 366 were introduced to repeal the 10% cut to Medi-Cal reimbursement and increase Medi-Cal payments to Medicare standards.

NEJM Study Shows Increase in Medicaid Reimbursement Improved Access to Care

New NEJM study shows that the increase in Medicaid reimbursement for primary care provider resulted in a 7.7% increase in new patient appointment availability without longer wait times. SFMS will be meeting with legislators to discuss Medi-Cal reimbursement rates and access to care issues.

Despite Surplus, State Budget Slashes Medi-Cal Rates

The California Legislature passed a $234-billion budget on Friday that will reduce Medi-Cal payments to physicians and other providers by 10%. The cuts were originally passed as part of the 2011-2012 budget, but were held up in court as the SFMS/CMA and other plaintiffs filed suit to stop the draconian cuts.

Massive Sacramento Rally to Challenge Impending Medi-Cal Cuts and Preserve Access to Care

A coalition of medical professional associations and the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West is organizing thousands to rally to prevent Medi-Cal cuts at the State Capitol.
