SFMMS Hits Milestone, Passing the 3000 Member Mark

The San Francisco Marin Medical Society (SFMMS) has hit a milestone, signing up its 3000th member - the most in its 152-year history. With new group memberships that include Sutter Health and the University of California San Francisco, our community of San Francisco and Marin County-based physicians, resident physicians, and medical students continues to grow.

In 2017, SFMMS was created by combining two longstanding medical societies -- the San Francisco Medical Society (SFMS) and the Marin Medical Society (MMS). SFMS was founded in 1868 and was one of the oldest local medical societies in California. MMS was founded 30 years later in 1898.

SFMMS’ growing membership represents physicians across every phase of practice and in every practice setting. Our history of progressive policy and successful advocacy in matters of public health is made possible because of the diversity, experience, and passion of our members. SFMMS remains dedicated to convening and connecting the physicians of San Francisco and Marin Counties to discuss issues of vital importance, to solve pressing problems, and ultimately to nourish and sustain physician practices.

2020 has been a challenging year, from the global COVID-19 pandemic to confronting systemic and institutional racial injustice. Throughout it all, SFMMS members have stood up for their patients, their communities, and for one another. On behalf of all of the staff, allow me to express deep gratitude for our members, and our anticipation as we grow, learn, and work collectively toward a healthier society.

Conrad Amenta, Executive Director
