SF Business Tax Change Ahead

In 2014, San Francisco will change the business tax structure. Tax reform under Prop E was approved overwhelmingly by voters in November of 2012 with a broad coalition of support from local businesses.

The City will phase in a Gross Receipts Tax and reduce the Payroll Expense Tax over the next five years. The Gross Receipts Tax applies to businesses with more than $1 million in gross receipts. The majority of businesses will not be impacted by the new Gross Receipts Tax, but almost all will see an increase in Business Registration Fee.

The City and County of San Francisco and the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to host a free seminar to provide an overview of the changes and a schedule of tax filings.
