CDPH Recruiting Deputy Director of Center for Infectious Diseases



The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is recruiting an experienced and visionary expert to lead our Center for Infectious Diseases.

Come join the largest and most acclaimed state public health department in the Nation to lead a team of high achieving scientists, laboratorians, physicians, and other health professionals in the prevention and control of infectious diseases. Apply innovative techniques and a health equity lens to serve the most diverse multilingual population in the nation by developing, implementing, and managing all statewide infectious disease programs including TB, STDs, HIV/AIDS, vaccine preventable illnesses, emerging infections, vector-borne diseases, zoonotic infections, and food-borne illnesses.              

Lead the State and Nation in investigating the impact of climate change in the occurrence of infectious diseases. Collaborate with 61 county and city health departments to investigate and control a large and diverse number of outbreaks each year.

Become a leader in the development of epidemiologic evidence for the implementation and evaluation of cutting-edge public health policies that impact infectious disease prevention and control to improve the health of all Californians.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A graduate/advanced degree in an academic field related to the medical, health sciences or allied sciences applicable to the work of this position.
  • An established reputation as an authority in epidemiology and infectious diseases surveillance, prevention, education, and control.
  • Expert knowledge of the principals and practices related to epidemiology and evaluation methods.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and analyzing public health issues and their impact to develop and implement
  • statewide public health policies.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple infectious disease programs and managing complex operational functions.
