Act Now! Proposed federal rule will dramatically reduce CA’s Medi-Cal funding.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a proposed rule— Medicaid Fiscal Accountability Regulation (CMS-2393-P)—that will significantly reduce our state’s Medicaid funding, exacerbate provider shortages and undermine patient access to medical care. The proposal limits the funding states can put up to receive federal matching funds and it does not establish clear standards by which future state Medicaid funding will be reviewed.

The California Medical Association (CMA) is urging physicians to comment NOW and urge CMS to rescind the proposed rule. Comments are due February 1, 2020. It is important that we send a large volume of individual letters to CMS.

CMA has prepared a sample letter to get you started, but it is very important that you also include personal comments about the negative impact this proposed rule will have on your patients, your practice and access to care in your community.

For additional background to use in your letters, see CMA’s “Medicaid Fiscal Accountability Regulation Advocacy Summary,” California Medi-Cal Fact Sheet and the Medi-Cal enrollment numbers by county
