Feedback Requested: CMS Requests Examples of Burdensome Certification/Recertification Requirements

CMS has requested the AMA’s help in identifying opportunities to reduce the administrative burden caused by certification requirements. In addition, we have heard from some specialty societies about concerns with the development of local coverage decisions (LCDs). In our discussions with CMS the agency appears open to hearing about this issue as well.

AMA Webinars

With many feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of the Quality Payment Program (QPP), physicians struggle to answer one key question – Where do I start? To help assuage this issue, the AMA has released a new customizable resource – the MIPS Action Plan – that breaks down the complexity of the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) track of QPP into specific actionable steps. In this 1-hour webinar, attendees will learn how to use this tool to create and/or validate their strategies for MIPS implementation in 2017. Chris Botts, AMA Care Delivery and Payment Manager will be the presenter. Click here to register.

AMA Statement on Senate Debate on Health System Reform

Yesterday afternoon Senate leadership overcame the first legislative hurdle in their attempt to pass potentially devastating health care legislation. With the motion to proceed vote deadlocked at 50-50, the Vice President cast the deciding vote in favor of moving forward. This is serious! The Senate will now take votes over the next few days in an attempt to pass legislation that could, depending on the version, result in anywhere between 22 – 32 million people losing their health care coverage according to the latest figures from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Physicians stand united with their patients - Contact your Senators now and tell them to oppose any legislation that would cut coverage for Americans with health insurance, take quality health care coverage away from those who have it now and drives up premiums and increases out-of-pocket health care costs - It's time to put patients before politics!

Update on Senate Health Reform Bill and AMA Polling Results

The American Medical Association(AMA) released the results of seven public opinion polls of registered voters in states that will be pivotal in determining the outcome of pending health reform legislation in the Senate (Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Nevada, Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia). Six of the seven polls were conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, which is the firm that conducts polls for the Wall Street Journal and NBC News. The West Virginia poll was conducted by Jan van Lohuizen.
