Health Advisory: National Increase in Reports of Suspected Acute Flaccid Myelitis Cases

Nationally, from January 1 through October 16, 2018, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported 62 confirmed cases of AFM in patients from 22 U.S. states. An additional 65 suspected cases are still under investigation at CDC. During this same time period, five suspected AFM cases have been reported to CDPH. One suspected case has been ruled out and four suspected cases remain under investigation; none have yet been confirmed.

Health Advisory: Fentanyl Overdose from Suspected Counterfeit Oxycodone Tablet in San Francisco

An individual experiencing a near-fatal overdose after consuming a pill stamped with “M30” was cared for at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital on June 11, 2018. No pill was available for testing, however such tablets are reportedly readily available in San Francisco. Similar events have been reported in Arizona.

SFDPH Health Advisory - Measles in San Francisco Bay Area

Between 3/5/18 and 4/3/18, measles has been confirmed in six (6) unvaccinated patients who are residents of Santa Clara County (5) and Alameda County (1). One additional linked case has been confirmed in Nevada. All cases are linked to an unvaccinated traveler who was exposed in Europe and developed measles after returning to the San Francisco Bay Area.
