SFMMS Board Votes to Support 20 State Bills

On April 15th, the SFMMS Board of Directors acted on the analysis and recommendations of the SFMMS Advocacy & Policy Committee and voted to support a slate of 20 state bills on a wide rage of topics important to the practice of medicine. Read more about each bill here.

March Election a Mixed Bag for Medicine

For the San Francisco Marin Medical Society, here are the main takeaways: - Low turnout favored moderate/conservative candidates/causes. - CMA/SFMMS-supported CA Proposition 1 (mental health facilities and funding) is slightly ahead, but remains too close to call – and could be for weeks if a recount is paid for by the opponents. - SFMMS-supported Measure A (affordable housing bond) looks poised to pass with just over the 66.6 percent needed (currently at 70 percent). - SFMMS-opposed Measure F (require addiction treatment for welfare recipients) is likely to pass, despite opposition from the medical community.   - Incumbents faced very little challenge to their seats.

SFMMS Pushes for Immediate Action on Behavioral Health Access

This week, SFMMS Director of Advocacy and Policy Adam Francis, testified at a hearing on the status of San Francisco’s Residential Treatment beds. The hearing was called by Supervisors Mandelman and Ronen to get a better sense of how much progress has been made to increase access for patients facing moderate to severe mental health issues.
