San Francisco Marin Medical Society Will Fight for Reproductive Rights

On Monday, May 3rd, 2022, reports emerged indicating that the Supreme Court of the United States drafted an opinion that will overturn the federal constitutional protections on abortion rights determined by its 1973 decision, Roe v. Wade. SFMMS has a proud history of fighting for access to abortion services. Organized medicine will fight for our values, for our communities, and for our patients.

MICRA Liability Protections to be Modernized Via Legislation; 2022 Ballot Proposition Withdrawn

The California Medical Association (CMA) today announced that legislation will be introduced to modernize theĀ Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act (MICRA). As a result, a proposition scheduled for the fall 2022 ballot, which would have eviscerated MICRA protections for physicians, will be withdrawn.

"Our physician members are on the frontlines of care to our most underserved and underrepresented patient populations, and so bring a unique perspective to issues of housing and homelessness. Housing issues in San Francisco, and specifically the lack of shelter capacity, have a tangible effect on the health outcomes of our communities."
